Cuore Cantastorie: Success in Catanzaro for the tribute to Otello Profazio who made popular traditions and identities relive
A riot of music and words to celebrate the Calabrian tradition and popular identity and remember the great artistic legacy of Otello Profazio. The Festival Cuore Cantastorie di Catanzaro, in its fourth edition – supported by the Calabria Region as part of the notice cultural activities and with the sharing of the Municipality of Catanzaro – he gave the city yesterday an intense and exciting concert, which saw the stage of the cloister of the San Giovanni complex A formation of representative storytellers of all Calabria. The idea and artistic direction of the project brought the signature of Francesca Prestiathe only woman from Calabrian storyteller, whom the same propatio has publicly baptized as his “successful”, having also participated in the festival before his painful disappearance. It is no coincidence that the first official tribute to the late artist Reggio was born from the Cantastorie Cantastorie.
In front of a large audience in the frame of the historic center, for the first time together live, next to the Prestia, they performed Rocco Jenco, Nino Racco, Biagio Accardi, Nando Brusco and Fulvio Cama. Each of them has had its own space in getting, in a personal way, the most beautiful songs of Profazio, who still retain their precious topicality and constitute a piece of identity and culture capable of telling the authentic history of Calabria around the world. The brigand Musolino, U Ciucciu, Donna Candia, Guvernu Talianu, Amuri, the Baroness of Carini, the legend of Colapesce: unforgettable verses and notes have resumes life thanks to the original reinterpretation of the six storytellers and the instruments of tradition, among guitars, flutes and drums. A heartfelt and passionate tribute that has reached the culmination, in the final, with a choir “here we live in air”, in the name of the proverbial irony that made iconic Calabrian folk of Otello Profazio iconic.
The two days of the Cantastorie Cuore also offered the opportunity to visit the photographic and documentary exhibition “Thank you, dear Othello!” edited by Gian Paolo Borghiwell -known scholar of popular traditions and ethnologist. At the national conference of the storytellers, it was still discussed by Profazio, through the gaze of the present, with the contributions of Giuseppe Tripodiwriter and friend of the artist Profazio, Massimo De Pascaleauthor of the book “Otello Profazio. A Voice”, and of the Rai journalist Paolo Bolano. The musical performance of the well -known Sicilian storyteller Mauro Geracigreat friend of Otello, allowed the public to rediscover the ballads dedicated to the myth of Orlando. Not only music and culture, but also enhancement of the territory and promotion of food and wine with the Principal Catanzaro prince dish, Morzello, which the guests of the Festival were able to discover in a special tasting at the “Vecchia Catanzaro” in collaboration with theAncient Congrega Tre Colli. Sounds, traditions, dialects, taste: there has been nothing to heart with a storyteller, a unique festival of its kind, which continues to give meaning and value to the popular roots.
